Findings from the Charity Digital Skills Report 2023
The Charity Digital Skills Report is the annual barometer of charities’ digital skills, attitudes and behaviours. You can read the Charity Digital Skills Report online or download the full report as a PDF here. This week, I attended a webinar in which Zoe Amar and Nissa Ramsay talked through their findings. Some of my notes are below, together with a copy of an excellent set of "live-thread" posts from Emily Casson on Threads.
Around half of those surveyed saw themselves as curious or starting out with digital in their organisations.
48% of those surveyed said they have a strategic approach to digital.
Only 5% of large charities are at the "curious" stage, with the proportion declining as we go up income brackets.
27% of charities say the cost of living crisis is the biggest challenge to how they are using digital, though some are impacted more than others.
66% are interested in making best use of emerging tech such as AI and ChatGPT… but 73% don’t feel prepared for the opportunities and challenges of AI.
59% say that using data and insights to improve is a key priority… but more than half of charities are facing significant challenges with their CRM.
Some ongoing year on year challenges getting clear vision of digital from CEO and board… and 57% of boards have low digital skills or room for improvement. How do we get the right people around the board table?
