
Introducing… the charity coffeehouse rules!
I was in a coffee shop the other day.
OK, so I know this isn't my first blog set in such an establishment, but please bear with me.
Anyway, behind the counter was this 'coffeeology' sign.
Now, I am probably tickled by cute wordplay more than the average punter, so I took a quick photo.
And it got me thinking about how these lessons can be adapted for those working for charities.
So, allow me to introduce...
THE CHARITY COFFEEHOUSE RULES
1. Espresso yourself
I think this one is pretty clear. We need to convey the importance of our charity's work with passion and clarity. An espresso is a concentrated 'shot' of coffee. Can you condense everything you would need to communicate in just a few sentences?
2. Stay grounded
Don't get too carried away when you have fundraising success. What will it enable you to deliver? How can you ensure you deliver it well? How will you then report back to the donor? Keep yourself grounded - it's where the action is.
3. Take life one cup at a time
We can only enjoy the cup we're drinking at any one time. Savour it. Plan for your charity's future of course - think about your next cuppa - but make sure you focus well on the work you're doing here and now. In any case, that will inform what you do in the future.
