“How Can we Lead with Courage?” Notes from The Big Pivot: The Third Sector Post Covid
Yesterday, I attended a webinar organised by Prospect magazine on on the impact of Covid and how charities are rethinking fundraising in the "new normal". My notes are below.
Intro: "It hardly needs saying that the country is in the grips of an emergency... and many charities are facing a crisis of their own. How can we make things easier and as effective as possible?"
Billy Wright from Brevio - drawn to work there by track record of Marcelle Speller. Brevio was set up as a "digital marketplace" to smooth grant application and matching process, so that charities don't have to fill in multiple application forms.
Now Peter Laing The Renewal Programme. Increase in local demand due to Covid. 300% increase in foodbank demand. Down on income like facilities hire, staff exhausted. 1/4 charities feel they won't survive without £ help. Opportunities to engage though. How to lead with courage?
Laura Chow from Postcode Lottery - surge in applications but have been understanding & collaborative. "It's been intense. The 3rd sector is fantastic at responding to immediate need but it comes at emotional cost. Demand's been relentless. Filling in multiple app forms doesn't help."
"Charities should take this time to think deeply about the problems and solutions. These are the solutions we're keen to fund. Give core funding and let charities be the experts they are. As a funder we're willing to fund that risk if a greater solution will arise."
